The United States imports nonhuman primates for research, exhibition, and education purposes. It is now time for us to be legally able to import primates for humanitarian purposes. HR 3556, the Humane Care for Primates Act of 2013, will establish a program to assist in the importation and care of abused, injured, or abandoned nonhuman primates. The United States would be allowed to protect animals living in foreign countries and have them brought to this country to live out their lives in certified primate sanctuaries.
