In December 2012, Global Captive Breeders, LLC was the focus of an investigation into suspected animal cruelty. Rescue workers found thousands of reptiles, snakes, geckos, rats, and other small animals in horrific conditions in the company’s warehouse. Most had to be euthanized because they were far too ill to be saved.
Recently, the district attorney of Riverside County, California filed felony animal cruelty charges against Mitch Behm and David Delgado, the owner and former manager, respectively, of Global Captive Breeders, LLC.
One action we can all take to reduce this kind of massive cruelty is to never buy “pocket” pets—small animals who are often sold in pet stores . If the public does not demand these pets, companies like Global Captive Breeders will not exist. In addition, read our article on trade in exotic pets to find out just what kind of lives these animals lead.
Please write the district attorney to let him know that if the accused are found guilty you want to see such alleged egregious acts of animal cruelty punished to the fullest extent of the law.
