We don’t need to look too far to know that animals matter to their human companions. But what if the animal isn’t yours? What if you’re in a place where you can save an animal who is in distress, but that animal didn’t belong to you, would you rescue the animal? More than 600 animals were rescued from the Black Forest fire that burned in Colorado recently. Many who rescued the animals did not own them, but they became their protectors and guardians until they and their humans could be reunited.
We’ve witnessed devastating storms, wildfires, floods, and other natural disasters; and every time we do, there is often a story or two or more about the humans who saved the horses, cows, cats, and dogs. Why do these people risk their lives to save the lives of someone else’s animal? Because they care. Because they know…animals matter.
