Stop Hazing Horses in July Heat

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is entrusted with the protection of wild horses. However, it does engage in roundups of these magnificent creatures who evoke the wild history of our western states. These roundups usually take place in mid-August after the mares have their foals and the foals are strong enough to endure the terrifying experience of being herded by helicopter into pens. Last year, the BLM began the roundups in the heat of July and has indicated it will do so again this year. As devastating as these roundups are in general, to endanger pregnant mares and foals by starting the roundup earlier than usual is unconscionable. Please write a polite letter to the director of the BLM, requesting that these roundups take place later in the summer. Of course, we would all like to see these roundups halted totally. That is something we can all work toward by letting the BLM know of our concerns regarding the corralling wild horses.
